playing music at a church activity

hi all we have just been given a new rented building to use 24/7 can we play music at activities ie pop music if so do we need a license?.

Also can we use a karakoe machine?.

Reading that the answer in NO to music and karakoe. Id this the case is there a yes or no answer if you cant play music how can we have dances.

The Priesthood leaders with responsibility over the ward/stake (or district/branch) hold the keys to interpreting the handbook and if it's allowable from a church policy standpoint. In this case, I'd suggest reading Handbook 2, 13.6.6

Presumably if you hire a DJ, he would hold the necessary performance license to play music.

As for a DVD not published by the church, most are licensed "for home use". The church is not a home. You'd either need to get a license or the permission of the copyright holder to show it.

You are right.
Here in Italy we can use freely any music if the activity involve only "invited poeple" (private meeting) and, most of all, with no fee.
