Reservations vs. Scheduling Event

#1

Post by bhayashi »

As the building scheduler it has been my understanding the RESERVATION area is not available to other members. I have found the Primary Presidency has scheduled activities in the RESERVATION area. So all have access to this?

Problem: The normal viewing of the calendar will not show anything scheduled under this area. It simply will block the time so when someone does try to schedule and EVENT, it will allow a popup to indicate a conflict.

Maybe the RESERVATION area should be done away with?

Only an assigned building scheduler can see the Reservations area under Settings, and thus only a building scheduler can create a Reservation. Note, however, that the Reservations calendar shows both reservations (in gray) as well as actual events scheduled for that building (in black). Is it possible that you are seeing an event scheduled by the Primary presidency on the Reservations calendar? Or could it be that there is another building scheduler for your building who has created a Reservation on behalf of the Primary presidency?

That's not entirely correct. In the Week view, any member can see reservations and scheduled events for the building simply by checking the box by the building name under "Locations" (see "View Events by Location" under Viewing the Calendar). If someone who is not a member of the unit specified in the reservation tries to schedule a conflicting event, they will be notified of the conflict in a popup.

The Reservations feature is very valuable, particularly for buildings that are used by multiple units, so many people would be disappointed if it were "done away with." But if your stake doesn't like the feature, you're welcome to ignore it. The calendar system will work just fine, even if you choose not to use Reservations -- you'll just miss out on the benefits of those particular features.

The purpose of reservations is to prevent Unit A from scheduling an event on a Unit B's night for the building. It's not intended to be used to block off the building for a specific event. Trying to use it that way will likely lead to problems.
