I notice that access to myfamily.com is blocked. It is owned and operated by Ancestry.com for private family oriented websites that can only be accessed by password only by invited members. It is not even open to being indexed by Google so it is far from an open social networking site. The firewall however returns "site blocked as a social networking site".
On the other extreme, facebook and youtube ARE accessible. As a family history consultant, I staff the FHC. I often need to refer to genealogy info I have recorded on myfamily.com Is there a way to suggest that this site be unblocked?

Thanks JD, that seems to be the best course. But for the record, here are some things I know based on the information in the first post.
1. Youtube has not been available in FHCs for about four months now. Some videos on Youtube that are posted on http://www.youtube.com/familysearch are inaccessible because copies are apparently not available elsewhere. Those are the 'getting started' videos linked to from the consultant portal at http://www.familysearch.org/serve
I opened a cases to see if the link on the consultant portal can point to an instance of the same videos away from Youtube, like on familysearch.org, that has not been solved yet. Many mormon.org profile videos are also being linked to are on Youtube, not on mormon.org as would be expected, Certain missionary efforts where one would want to show those inline on the mormon.org page during say an open house, a meeting, etc may not work as well without a way to show these also on another site outside Youtube, most mormon.org profiles now are linked to Youtube videos where those are up and not a Brightcove instance. An example of a mormon.profile video only on Youtube as found on mormon.org: http://mormon.org/anita/
2. Myfamily.com: This in fact was for a few years the name of the parent company of Ancestry. Sometime before they went public they changed the name to Ancestry but still kept the myfamily.com site and name for that. The old Sears call center building in Provo was used for a few years by them. That was to support the site, which is a subscription site as previously noted. The only matter that would even be remotely approaching 'social networking' is the Facebook integration at the far lower right of the homepage. The subscription price is considered moderate for family history sites, it's not really low, but $30 a year is considered a medium price level for those. Subscribers only bring in family members and extended family. It's not wide open like Facebook, Linkedin, etc., are.

Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

I'm going to run tests on the Mormon.org pages tonight when I go into the FHC. I'll know if the mormon.org site will redirect to a location not on Youtube,
That would also be the solution to the familysearch.org/serve problem too, if you are on that page and it links you to the Youtube page, if it senses you are inside the Church firewall it should redirect you to a page on a Church website to view the same content from, currently that FamilySearch page doesn't do that.

Ran the test related to mormon.org.
Yes, the system sensed I was behind the Church firewall and delivered the video via the Brightcove player. However, it took forever for the server to load the image to the FHC computer, I think it was pulling hte file from an IP address that was 10.100.100.xx as I can't remember the last number.
I think it took as much as two minutes for the Brightcove player and the image to load.

One more possibility, check your browser to see if you've inadvertently blocked the video player image from view on that page or mormon.org generally, usually it involves the 'block images...' functions in the browser menus.
