Custom Report broken?

I created some custom reports over a year ago that are based on custom fields. We used these reports to track the last date of sacrament talks and prayers of the ward members. The custom report just basically looks for a "no value" in the custom field which is a date.

The report was working fine but somewhere along the line it stopped reporting if there is no value unless I actually attach a custom field to the member with a "blank" date.

I really don't want to go through the whole ward and attach fake dates to get the report working again...

Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?
