My Study Notebook
How can I edit the actual Tags in My Study Notebook. There are several that are similar because they happened to get saved even though they were spelled incorrectly.

I looked briefly at the Notebook app, it appears when you click on Edit for a particular saved entry you have access to the tags. There is a small x on the right that if you select it, the tag will be removed and you can type in the correct tag. I think you were looking for some type of 'merge' function, but it doesn't appear to have one.
On the left hand side, if you select, one-by-one the tags that are incorrect (bringing up each entry with that particular tag, and Edit each of those entries), perform the above procedure, then move to the next tag, it'll be a manual operation, but will get you what you're looking to do.
