Local Support Suggestion

#1

Post by W.King.II »

Just looking at the issue of local support, couldn't you just have all the data back up to a separate partition on the hard drive by default, and then just insert a boot usb/dvd/cd, restart, then click a button that reinstalls the OS from scratch? After that, all you have to do is have a script that you run that will restore the backed up data. That gets rid of most of your tech support issues, and is very simple for the end use (aka the ward/stake tech specialists).
Just a thought

Moderator note: This thread has been split from the thread MLS-!-Windows since it addresses a different topic and the thread is over five years old.

Note the issue of local support in the thread you originally posted to is in reference to alternate operating systems for Windows.

A very similar system was in place in the days of Destop 5.5. It was on a hidden partition. I can't tell you why that was abandoned. I do know that few users knew how to recover the backup that was on that partition. In my experience as an STS very few users even knew about that partition.
