Scout Fundraiser

#1

Post by jgamber »

We have our annual scout fundraiser coming up next week. Several people will be making donations to the scouts at this time. Normally, they are given an envelope and tithing slip and complete it at the fundraiser. The question that arises is who the envelope should be given to. Can a Scout leader collect the envelopes and then give them to a member of the Bishopric or does the individual need to give it directly to the member of the Bishopric. The handbook is very clear that ALL contributions must be given to the Bishopric but does that include this type of event? Sorry...very "wordy" question.

The same question was raised in the Handling Tithes and Offerings vs. AMFA funds thread.

In our stake, in order to completely avoid confusion, members are asked specifically not to use tithing envelopes or tithing slips.

Are you talking about the same thing as the OP of this thread? An authorized fund-raiser for Scout camp and/or equipment meeting the requirements of Handbook 2 13.2.8 and 13.2.9 should be collected for deposit in the Other:AMFA sub-category set up specifically for that purpose. Using a "Tithing and Other Offerings" slip is the only method of documenting those deposits.

If, however, you are talking about the Friends of Scouting fund-raiser then your stake's avoidance of using the "Tithing and Other Offerings" slip is appropriate and in accordance with the June 2011 MLS instruction message.

I'm sorry I just read "annual fundraiser" in the opening post and assumed it was related to FOS.
