Comma vs Semi Colon

#1

Post by zaneclark »

What is the story on the semi colons separating email addresses in the Directory email feature? I have to copy, paste into a processing app and then do a find and replace to get the comma. Are there some mail systems that use semi colons? I use a mail client on my Apple OS and sometimes gmail, and they both require a comma...
(I think this came up once before, but I can't find the thread.)

I did a little more serious digging and was able to find the previous thread. It was almost exactly a year ago and sadly, it still works the same... Evidently it favors Outlook over other email clients...

The thread referred to is Problem sending email to leaders in new directory. I don't know if anyone ever actually reported the problem using the Feedback mechanism.

This will be fixed when we release the next version of directory. Hopefully in the next few days.

For those who use MS Outlook the commas are converted to semi-colons within Outlook. So there is no problem there.

I spoke too soon.....when the semi colon was the problem, I was able to do some editing and create a ward email list that I could use to send messages, but now that the semi colon problem is fixed, the mail to Adults gets hung up on both a Mac and PC. I can maill to smaller groups such as the RS or HP, but the Adults list seems to be too long, even though it worked before with the semi colon.... I will put this on Feedback, but I find I get better response from this forum.

How are you trying to send this email? What email client are you using? I personally use GMail, and I don't have problems with long lists of recipients.

I am a Mac user and have always used the default Mail program. I did some checking online and found out the procedure for using Gmail as my default mail client, but when I click on the "Email all Adults" in the Directory, it now opens an empty mail site waiting for me to add addresses and a message. The addresses don't even try to load as they do with the Mac Mail client.. Any Mac people out there that can help me?
