List of Widows, Single Mothers, Widowers, etc. in the Ward

#1

Post by coelhoigor »

Brethren,

I have been asked by the High Priest Group Leader of my ward to provide a list of all the widows, single mothers and widowers in the ward so that he can revise and update the group's hometeaching. I've looked for it in MLS but my best answer to the brother was that he should sit down and isolate that list from refining the general Relief Society list. It gets more complicated with the men, since many of the older men have gone inactive without being ordained to High Priest or even as an Elder.

Is there a way to get a list of only these groups in the ward through MLS? I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Yours,

Igor Marques

In the wiki article Custom reports (MLS), you'll find a report already made for Widows/Widowers. I don't know of any criterion you can use in custom reports related to having children, so the single mothers report would be more complex to generate than a simple custom report.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

The way I'd do it is create a report of single non-widow adult females and manually cross off the ones without any children.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

If you generate the Unit Statistics report and select the detailed option, you'll see a category called "households with single parent and youth or children." Click on the category to see the names.

Custom reports are powerful, and you can get useful reports your leaders may want every month. For example, using the above report, try adding "HT statistics" to get a report of the home teaching visits to those widows/widowers for 3 months, 6 months or the past year to truly check your home teaching efforts.

For example, this report criteria, below, may list many of those members your HP group leader is looking to track, and some others that deserve attention. Add "Home teachers" and "HT Statistics" for a true picture.
Household Position -- is -- Head of Household
Priesthood -- is not -- Melchizedek
To narrow the list, and not show the prospective elders in your list, instead of the "priesthood" line above, just add:
Sex -- is -- Female
Try building your list to track new move-ins, or new converts, or add age qualifiers. It is very powerful.
