Cannot access new LDS.org Sites (Calender & Directory) from German (DEU) home page

Discussions about the Calendar Tool at lds.org. Questions about the calendar on the classic site should be posted in the LUWS forum.

Cannot access new LDS.org Sites (Calender & Directory) from German (DEU) home page

#1

Post by gxwheel »

I have submitted this (along with other members) via the Feedback page, but have received no response.

When going to the Calender or the directory from the Germany home page (http://www.lds.org/?lang=deu), I receive the following error:
The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
It is interesting that from the English home page the calender and directory work just fine. Here are the different URLs.

GERMAN URLs (with page load error):
https://new.lds.org/church-calendar?lang=deu
https://new.lds.org/directory?lang=deu

ENGLISH URLs (no error):
https://www.lds.org/church-calendar/?lang=eng
https://www.lds.org/directory/?lang=eng

Any information is appreciated. :)

It's quite clear that the German home page simply has obsolete URLs that use the old (ironic, huh?) URLs that have new.lds.org instead of www.lds.org. So someone that can actually fix the country home page needs to get that message.

Thanks for the quick response - my guess was also the URLs.

How can we ensure that your statement (the fixing team is informed) comes to pass? It seemed to change over the weekend - last week from the German homepage there were no problems.

I've passed this on to the team that controls that menu. I think it's an easy fix for them, so hopefully it'll get updated quickly. I'll let you know what I hear back.

Thanks for the update. It would be a great help to get that taken care of! Hopefully the fix can go quickly (table or parameter driven perhaps).

Perhaps I communicated something incorrectly. I just received the message from the help desk that everything is working properly.

Meanwhile . . . The problem persists for our members here in Germany.

If there is anyway to get this message as quickly as possible to the right people, that would greatly appreciated. I am getting several emails each day from members in our stake with the question - why doesn't the website work.

Please follow these steps to find the source of the error:

1) Open German LDS.org page: https://www.lds.org/church-calendar/?lang=deu

2) Click on "Hilfsmittel"

3) click on "Kalender" or "Verzeichnis"

4) receive the following Error . . .

I don't know just what you communicated, but there is no question that the links for

That's not the right link (it goes straight to the Calendar, which does work properly). I think you mean https://www.lds.org/?lang=deu

But with that adjusted link, it's indeed easy to duplicate the problem with Kalender, Verzeichnis, or LDS Maps -- they all go to different paths on new.lds.org, which are not redirected to the corresponding path on www.lds.org, and therefore give the connection reset error. This could be easily fixed by just fixing the subdomain on those three links for the German menu to go to http://www.lds.org instead of new.lds.org. Alternatively, the load balancer could be fixed to redirect traffic properly for those three paths from new.lds.org to http://www.lds.org, but that would probably be more work.

But in any case, in this post jdcr256 did say that he had passed the information on the appropriate team. Hopefully that will get some action soon.

I did have the wrong link for the German home page. Thanks for catching that.

Yesterday I received the following help desk response, which prompted my entry into the forum. According to this help desk response, no action will be taken, but action is needed.
Brother Wheller, Thanks for contacting LDS.org

I checked the link you provided,
https://new.lds.org/church-calendar?lang=deu - This webpage is not available
it looks link it from a test website, that programmers use pre-production.

Then I tested the link at the production/on-line/real Church website and it is working properly.
https://www.lds.org/church-calendar/?lang=deu

it seems like the regular production website it working properly.
Thanks for the taking the time to report this.

It sounds like the help desk was confused by your steps, since your first step didn't point them to the German home page, but rather to the pre-production German calendar page. The problem is indeed on the German home page at https://www.lds.org/?lang=deu, which contains the three bad links on the Tools menu. But since you pointed them to a different page, it's understandable that they couldn't see the problem.

So you can either try again to contact the help desk, making it clear which page contains the three bad links, or you can just wait and hope that the team that jdcr256 contacted will make the fix.

I received notification on Friday from the help desk that the issue has been resolved, but the Links are still incorrect (Calender, Directory, and Maps).

It looks like the Spanish sites are experiencing the same issue.

Any news on this issue?

Sorry for asking again, but we are right in the middle of rolling out to all wards in our stake and so . . . it is a high priority issue for us. Obviously there is a work around, but . . . it is nice to stay on the site in your mother tongue.

Cheers,
Gardner
