MLS gives error dialog saying "can't connect" during send/receives
Since mid December, most of the wards in my stake have been receiving a dialog saying "can't connect" when attempting to perform a send and receive process. The clerks return later in the evening or week and are then able. Is there a transmission bottleneck in SLC?

How are you connected? Via broadband or dial-up? Some networks in the local meetinghouse have been overwhelmed by the number of personal devices connecting to them and may not have any IPs for the clerk computers.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

hardwired to Comcast high speed internet
All ward clerk computers in the stake are connected via hardwire to Comcast high speed internet.

Even if the computers are connected via hardwire, if all the IP addresses have been taken by other devices when the clerk computer is turned on, you won't get an IP address, and thus won't have an Internet connection.davidltuck wrote:All ward clerk computers in the stake are connected via hardwire to Comcast high speed internet.
One thing you might want to test is to see if you can access any websites at the same times you are having MLS connection difficulties. If you can't hit lds.org in a browser, for example, then that means you don't have an Internet connection.
On the other hand, if you can connect to lds.org in a browser, but MLS can't do a Send/Receive, then the problem is most likely with the Church servers that handle MLS transmissions.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

Unless the computers are assigned a static IP address. Check with the STS to see if static IP addresses have been assigned. Unless he specifically set them up for static IP addresses they will have dynamic IP addresses and what aebrown stated about not having an IP address lease can easily happen.aebrown wrote:Even if the computers are connected via hardwire, if all the IP addresses have been taken by other devices when the clerk computer is turned on, you won't get an IP address, and thus won't have an Internet connection.
