Gospel Library on Pandigital Novel 9"

#1

Post by roarkperry »

I have a couple of Pandigital Novel 9" tablets.
I have not been able to get the gospel Library to work on them. I have downloaded the .apk files for both 2.0 and 2.1 and I can install either one but when I launch the app, it blinks and then does a force close. I have tried deleting the gospel_library folder as in the troubleshooting steps but this has not worked.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert on mobile devices. I had the same problem with my 7" Novel. I had to install content before it would work. I believe you can download the content from the wiki site. Someone with more knowledge may be able to provide more information.

I just saw the updated Gospel Library 2.1 and downloaded it to my Pandigital. It does not seem to have fixed the problems we are having. When you install it, it goes blinks on and off without running, eventhough it says it's installed. The only version working is the earlier 1.2 version. I would like to know where the "content" ronaldf is speaking of can be found. The scriptures themselves by link is dead. I've followed the instructions for deleteing the database to no avail. I'd like to find the Email support link which seems to be very hard to locate as well. If only to ask someone to add the updated lesson manuals to the old 1.2 until our issues get resolved.

gospel-library-android-group@ldsmail.net.
All the support e-mail addresses can be found in the appropriate Gospel Library wiki articles for the operating system in question. For example if you go to the wiki, click LDS Projects, then click Category at the bottom of the page, scroll down to "Gospel Library for [operating system], and click the one you are interested in you can find the support section on that page.

Try this site:

I may have copied the content from my other tablet. Its been a month since I did it. I'll send you a private message.

The 1.2 version will not be updated with any additional content. The 2.0 upgrade changed database structure and direction to allow for more content and more features. Over time you will continue to see those features be added.

You might compare the 1.2 version to Windows 95. It was great in it's time but times have changed and keep moving forward.

I have resolved the issues on my 2 Pandigital 9" Novels thanks to ronaldf's posts.

I uninstalled and removed the gospel-library folder to get a clean state.
I then downloaded a couple of versions. 2.0 works fine.
After installing I had the same error as before. upon fuse, it starts to check for updates and then crashes.
I then copyied my gospel_library folder from my Android phone to the tablets and they work perfectly now.

The problem is when it tries to get the updated content. but once you have content, it works. The content has to be copied from a working device in order to get it working.

Thanks,
Roark

I have two of the 9" Novels and the Gospel Library runs fine on them with no fiddling around required. I flashed both of mine with a community-based firmware, though, so I don't know how it would have worked with the stock firmware. However, I have found the community firmware is very stable and it is easy to flash. And it's all open source software. There is a community built around this, and the forum thread with the updated firmware is at http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/15773-a ... are-opdn9/.

If you decide you want to try this and have any issues or questions, feel free to PM me here and I'll help as much as I can.

From my experience and communicating with a few other Novel users, the stock Novels need to have Gospel Library sideloaded. After sideloading a copy of the content folder with at least one book must replace the empty content folder. Everything works after that. You either have to change the stock firmware or go through the sideloading process. Either way, "fiddling" is required. I believe this is true for both the 7" and 9" Novels. If any Novel users have been able to install GL on a stock unit, please post here along with your firmware version and market used.
