Blackberry Scriptures

Post by RBeatse »

I am sure this is here already somewhere but I cannot find it. Is there a good solution for putting the Standard Works on a Blackberry to read and search? I knwo the Palm OS has many different version but as Blackberry's become more ubiquitous, I have not yet found a good solution (and using the web version is just not fast enough in a class)

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any scriptures solution for the blackberry yet. Are you talking about an "offline" solution or a solution where you can read the scriptures through the web?

I am talking about an offline solution. So far, the online solution, for me, is much too slow if you are in a class and the teacher says to go to a particular scripture, by the time you are there, they have moved on.

Blackberry Scriptures

My wife uses the Blackberry Scriptures in the Mobipocket reader in the offline mode for reading at home, but it is not fast enough to use at Sunday School classes, the links are too slow.

I often take my laptop with Mobipocket loaded, and I follow the lesson with the teacher manual in it and with the scriptures pre-marked for that class lesson. I could just about keep up. I think a better solution will have to be found so that we can follow the lesson and quickly get the links, a better way of searching the scriptures will be ideal. I like the laptop because I can easily jump from one book to another for my train of thought, but still too slow even with the laptop to follow the lesson.

For searching I haven't found any one that can do well on Pocket PC. I am currently using Yanceyware Reader but it is not ported to the blackberry, although it does quickly switch scripture to scripture (at least on my Toshiba e740). Though it can only search through the current chapter and even that takes forever.

I don't know which reader you have but the church website is http://www.lds.org/handheld while the reader usually has a site for scriptures to be downloaded too.

Where are the scriptures?

I went to the web site, but can't seem to find the scriptures. I see issues of the Ensign, General Conference talks, the hymn book and plenty of manuals, but no scriptures. I'm using mobipocket on my blackberry. Am I missing something or are the scrptures not there?

Try looking at the LDS Book Club for Mobipocket.

From the Handheld FAQ page:
Q. Why aren’t the scriptures posted on the Church’s handheld device Web site?

A. EZ Reader Archives contain the only official handheld version of the scriptures. Providing the scriptures in all available formats is a priority of the Church. Due to the sacred nature of the scriptures, the editorial review process for new format offerings is rigorous and time consuming. Copies of the standard works on third-party Web sites are not official or Church approved.
