Stake Conference Webcast - audio issues

#1

Post by jrhoton »

Hello,

We did our 2nd try of stake conference this past week webcasting from the stake center to two outlying chapels.

The 1st time we audio synch issues and members of this site recommended we use VLC so that we could adjust the audio synch and that worked perfectly.

However, 3 different times we lost audio and we could actually predict when it was going to happen. Whenever we switched cameras and went to the music director and the organ started playing loudly, the audio would disconnect. We would have to close down VLC and reopen the connection and wait for it to buffer and then it would work again until the next song with the organ. It happened at the opening song (so everyone missed the prayer), then again at the intermediate hymn, we then missed a few minutes of a visiting member of the seventy, and then again at the closing song.

It happened the same in both outlying buildings.

We had used the stake priesthood leadership session on Saturday as a test and it was flawless during that session, however, we didn't have the organ. (we are assuming it's the organ, the loud sound of the organ, but that's just guess a guess).

Any suggestions on what the situation is or how we can resolve for the next time?

Thank you for any help / suggestions you can offer.

Were you using a video switcher with a TBC to synchronize the video signals or a passive (manual) switch?

If video is lost for any amount of time (like when switching cameras), the loss of signal could have detrimental effects on the compression of the video and audio streams.

Was the organ sound routed into the audio feed (through a mixer)? If so, how was this done (e.g. what jacks/mics did you use, what input did the sound go to, what other sound sources did you have, etc.)?
