Laptop Screen Size w/ no scrolling

I have been asked by our FM office for a recommend laptop size for their techs who are working with sound systems and networks now. I have a Asus 1005 netbook that I get frustrated with because of having to scroll down just to see one web page or application. I've tried find out what screen size or number of pixels will allow webpage viewing w/o scrolling but must not be asking the right questions.

Anyone know where to get the info? Will a 12, 13, 14" wide do it?

Generally, a larger screen will have a higher resolution, but that's no guarantee.

I'd say the minimum is 1024 x 768.

I think as long as you get a "laptop" and not a "netbook" you'll probably be OK.

That's interesting that the FM group tech is working with the network now. I thought that the networking at the building was the stake technology specialist assignment.

Second about the web site, it all depends on which website you are looking at. For instance, I am currently on the tech.lds.org forums and I have a 20" monitor set at 1600X1200 pixels and I still have to scroll to see the entire website.

Also the other thing to consider is the weight of the laptop. The bigger the screen the heavier the laptop. I am getting one for the office that has a 17" screen and it will be coming in at close to 8lbs. So if you want to get a decent size to weight ratio, I would say go with a 15" monitor.

If you're trying to find a screen that can fit an entire webpage without scrolling - such a thing does not exist, because there's no limit on how big a webpage can be.

However, I have played with some Netbooks in the store, and know that the display is too small to show the some of the normal OS windows! I assumed that's what you were talking about.

Certainly since the beginning of 2011, the FM group has been responsible for the network. See Roles and responsibilities (meetinghouse Internet).

That's a fairly safe minimum -- most websites try to fit in no more than 1024 pixels wide. Of course, web pages can be any length, so there's no way to avoid vertical scrolling. But you definitely want to avoid horizontal scrolling whenever you can.

But with only 768 pixels of height, you will probably be doing a lot of vertical scrolling. Going 1280 x 1024 or so will reduce the vertical scrolling. In any case, the key is the number of pixels, not the physical dimensions of the screen.
