Donations for Members to attend the Temple

#1

Post by davesudweeks »

Due to National Guard service on Conference Weekend, I missed the announcement that we can donate for members to attend the Temple (similar to the Perpetual Education fund?). I haven't yet had a chance to catch up on Conferrence so don't know the exact announcement, but we already have members trying to donate to that account.

Does anyone know how/when we will be able to do so? I did ask one member Sunday to hold their specific Temple Attendance donation for a week or two until we find out how to do it.

It is the Temple Patron Assistance Fund. I do not see anything in MLS yet. Until we receive instructions how to process the donations I don't see a way to do it in MLS.

A member who wishes to contribute to the General Temple Patron Assistance Fund may write it in on the Other line of their donation slip. We have instructed our clerks to record it there (in Other) and await further instructions. Either MLS will be updated or we will send checks to the Church, as we used to do with other funds that were not automatically swept in MLS.

A member also can contribute to the General Temple Patron Assistance Fund at LDS Philanthropies using a credit card, PayPal, or an eCheck. (These are some of the more modern electronic ways of making financial payments for those who may not have heard of them before.)

In spite of what the link at LDS Philanthropies says, this is not a new fund. It is just not generally known in the United States and Canada.

It is there. I processed several on Sunday. AMFA:Temple Patron Assistance, or something like that.

I've processed donations for Temple Patron Assistance for years. It hasn't been a very well known/used category, but a couple of members donate regularly. Donations are entered into a Temple Patron subcategory under Other/AMFA. Interestingly, it's both an automatically swept category and a "charitable contribution" category, unlike the rest of Other. I guess they just put it there not having any better home for it. When you do an Income/Expense report it doesn't automatically select for printing with the other subcategories. It would have been nice if they'd sent out a quick MLS message to point it out, since it's in a funny place and maybe not noticed by some clerks.

OK, I see it now. It is Other:Temple Patron Assistance.

Thanks for clarifying that. I have heard of some people asking if they could go a temple itself and donate but that's not how the program works. Just work with your Bishops in your various wards and all will be well and not confusing.......
