New FamilySeach resources inaccessible behind Church firewalls?!

#1

Post by jglanfield »

We just had the new Church firewall installed in our stake center. Since it blocks YouTube, our FH center can no longer access sites such as:

http://www.youtube.com/user/familysearch

Another site they are having trouble with is the resource videos at the bottom of this page:

https://www.familysearch.org/civil-war

Any suggestions?

That's the problem with YouTube being blocked -- some content will not be available, even if it is clean, helpful content. My guess is that FamilySearch will eventually provide that content on other unblocked servers, but they haven't had time to make adjustments yet since the firewall filtering policy was changed to block YouTube.

As near as I can tell, that issue has nothing to do with the firewall. There are 7 videos there, and videos 1, 2, 3, and 5 all work fine. The links for 4, 6, and 7 are broken right now and won't work no matter what firewall you have. I've reported these broken links.

The FHC videos are available by accessing the FHC portal then using the training link at the bottom.

All the links for the 7 videos work correctly now.

Does the FH portal contain all of the videos that are on the youtube resource channel?

lds.org/media redirects to newsroom.lds.org.

And the specific youtube channel I'm wondering about is this one here: http://www.youtube.com/user/familysearch

Can those videos be found elsewhere?

Thanks!
