Personal Video Conferencing (PVC)

#1

Post by bhm014 »

I read a letter from the Office of the Presiding Bishopric (09/19/2011) about the availability of the Personal Video Conferencing service for leaders outside Utah. I would like to know if leaders outside the USA can also sign up to use the service.
Thank you.

A quick peek at the letter leads me to believe that the answer is yes. The only areas excluded were the Utah areas. One way to find out is to follow the instructions in the letter to request an account. :)

To follow up on my own post, I just tried to create an account and even though I would appear to fit the criteria I was not allowed to create an account. Perhaps since the letter was dated yesterday the new requirements have not been uploaded.
Sorry, you not authorized for a Personal Video Conferencing account at this time.

It could be for any of these reasons:
Not a member of the Church workforce.
Member of the Church workforce but your LDS Account does not identify you as such.
Church position has not been authorized as needing access. (Ward Clerk)
Church Area has not been authorized as needing access. (North America Northwest Area)
If you do meet the criteria outlined above, please send us an e-mail so we can address this issue.
It would be useful to see if others who need it can create PVC account.

PVC authorization

#4

Post by ksolsen »

Hi - I'm the product manager at Church HQ for Personal Video Conferencing. At the ward level, we authorized only a couple of positions - bishop and ward executive secretary. While we would have liked to authorize more positions at the ward level, the number of potential new users was more than the system is ready for right now.

Certainly, there are some great potential uses for PVC for ward leaders. My recommendation is that you have your bishop and executive secretary sign up for accounts, and then when you want to have a ward council, bishopric meeting, or other similar meetings, the bishop or executive secretary can send out an invite to the participants with a link to their meeting room URL. Those participants can join as guests without having PVC accounts. That way, everyone can still participate. Detailed instructions on how to do this are here:

You can find the list here.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Tried to use system - it works (I am fitting criteria to be outside Utah and have right calling). However I hope it will became better because right now quality wasn't as good as I hoping to have. So I have question if Church recommends to use pvc.lds.org because of safety reason or something like that or I can still continue to use my old more friendly skype? (but in the same time I think it is amazing that Church makes such important project)

No, PVC is available worldwide, other than in Utah.
