Balances in “swept” categories

We have units that have positive or even negative balance forwards from last year in categories such as tithing and Fast Offerings. A year to date I/E report also indicates that income and transfer amounts do not match so there are balances in those accounts. One of these accounts is the BOM fund. In that case income and transfers do match however they started out with a small negative balance forward and carry an identical negative balance. How can this be corrected?

I had a similar problem with a stake reimbursable category. I called Local Unit Support and was told not to worry about it -- local units are not responsible for balances in categories that automatically have zero balances. It bothers me to have nonzero balances there, but I've decided to let it go.
