Can my local unit receive tithing for a member from another unit?

We have a visitor who will be away from there ward for approximately 1-2 months. Can they pay tithing here in our unit, or should they wait until they return to their own unit?

Anyone can make donations to any ward. There are reasons it would be simpler to keep all the donations in one ward, but then again, people move and change wards all the time, and so members might very well make donations to two or more wards during a year. This wouldn't really be all that different. For missionary donations, it's not uncommon for grandparents, for example, to make a missionary donation to the ward where their grandson lives. For all such donations, it's important for the donor to supply an accurate mailing address so that a donation statement can be mailed at the end of the year.

However, if payment can be made by check, I would think that it would be relatively simply for that visitor to mail a payment to their home bishop. If they don't have the address handy, you can help them find it through CDOL. That way all the donations would be to the same home ward for the year, which would probably simplify their record keeping.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

The important issue is that the out-of-unit donation will not be linked to the member since there is no provision to enter a MRN for an out-of-unit member donor (without creating an out-of-unit record) in MLS. The member should make sure the unit to which they made the out-of-unit donations has the correct year end mailing address. It may not be the same provided on the Tithing and Other Offerings slip at the time of the donation.

Also... be SURE either they include their full mailing address on the slip, or the brethren processing the donation copy it off the check, in order to get a year end statement to them.

This is all assuming the member wants or needs the year end receipt for tax reasons. It's not necessary for tithing settlement.
