Internet and WiFi Services in Meetinghouses

#11

Post by pete.arnett »

Just ask your Stake President to request a date from the local Facilities Manager (FM) when they will have Internet and LDSAccess (WiFi) operational in your stake's meetinghouses

The following are some of the church's provided tools that will be very helpful for your stake's members to meet the mission of the church:
LDS Meetinghouse Webcast Software see speed requirements
Personal Video Conferencing (soon)
Employment Opportunities (LDSJobs)

Meetinghouse Technology:
Funding
"High-speed Internet installation, equipment, and monthly fees are now paid by area offices and facility management groups."

Installation
"The stake technology specialist works with the facility manager to install the services in a way that meets the Church's specifications, does not degrade the aesthetics of the facility, and avoids duplication of any other services (such as Internet service in Family History Centers)."
Thanks,

Thank goodness for 3G :)

I was in contact with our FM group at the beginning of the week. They had just been informed that the delay, in supply, is because the Cisco 881 Firewall didn't comply with some European directives. The units are under going the necessary mods to make them compliant. It will probably be at least 2 months before they start the roll out.

I heard that the problem more specifically was that the Cisco units were ordered from America. When they arrived it was found that the radios were not certified to be used in the EU (a lot of other equipment tends to be compatible with both FCC and EU standards and just requires a Firmware setting change so I am surprised that the likes of Cisco would make a model which was US only).

What I was told was the Church was looking for a contractor to install the devices but also likely supply the correct EU compliant models as well (rather than the existing ones being converted). I don't know if the ones shipped would have to then be sent back to the US for use there. It could also be in the mean time that someone has found that the existing ones can be adapted to be EU compliant and that you have more up to date information.

I am still clinging on to hope that It might be towards the end of the year. I am trying to remain optimistic. My plan is to suggest it could be towards the end of the year (which at one point at least was what I was told) and if that does not actually happen I can just act surprised.
There are no problems, only solutions.

Radio devices in Europe are required to have ETSI compliance, which is the equivalent of FCC in the USA. Whilst the devices made for the American market are CE marked for use in Europe, they do not have ETSI certification, and they are not able to be made so by virtue of a firmware upgrade. It requires a specific model to be tested and certified for use within Europe.

As far as the UK installations are concerned, planning is moving forward and we are still on course to have installations completed this year.
