Disposal of limited use temple recommend books

#1

Post by sgardner7 »

I assume the limited use temple recommend book once filled should be kept in a secure place for one year before shredding. Is this correct?

On the limited-use book, that would be about right. The book itself has directions stating that it should be kept until all the recommends issued from it have expired. Since limited-use recommends are good for a year, it should be destroyed a year after the last recommend was issued.

Tip: I fold the hard, back cover (the one that is used to keep writing from populating down through recommends below) over the front of the book. Then I write "Destroy after mm/dd/yyyy" on the *new* front of the book and file them in date order in our filing cabinet that is locked and inside the locked Clerk's office. The date is based on the date of the last recommend written from the book. This makes it easy to quickly check which ones need to be shredded in the future...
