Primary asked me (clerk) to figure out why two children of a less-active family were not showing up on their attendance rolls. The answer is because the children were never blessed. The parents gave permission and provided the necessary information. I was able to create the MR for the younger child from Membership > Records > New Child of Record. I tried to do this for the older child but it fails because he is eight. The error message says:
The child is 8 years old and must be entered using the Child Without Record Baptism option.
The problem with this is that the child has not been baptized. How should I proceed with this? Baptism is not imminent. Is there some other way to create a placeholder for him in MLS?
Can't create MR for unbaptized child of record (8 years old)

I presume that when you said the parents gave permission that the child under eight was actually given the naming and blessing ordinance before the record was created.psnarula wrote:Primary asked me (clerk) to figure out why two children of a less-active family were not showing up on their attendance rolls. For children over the age of eight the only way to create a membership record is for the child to be baptised.psnarula wrote:I tried to do this for the older child but it fails because he is eight. The error message says:

Since the child over eight is not going to be baptised any time soon a nonmember temporary record should be created. Once created he will have to be manually added to any class since nonmember temporary records do not include birthdates. Without a birthdate MLS cannot use the class rules to make a class assignment. See the wiki article on classes for further information.

I think there's some confusion on the sequence of events. I'm guessing that the parents have *now* given permission for the record to be created.
Not that it make much difference at this point. At this point, I'm not sure as there's any valid options other then to have the child baptized.

For a child under the age of eight a record may be created if the ordinance of naming and blessing is completed or if at least one parent is a member and both parents agree to create the record. For a child eight years old or older on the date the record is created the only way to create a membership record is to baptise the child.psnarula wrote:Um, no. Is this actually a requirement?
