Members Moved Out Notes Field

#1

Post by Hilohi »

On the screen where you input the member's new address when you move his or record out of the ward, there's a field where you can input notes. While I used to be able to use that field, it is now greyed-out and I can no longer type anything in there. How do I "un-gray-out" this field so I can use it again?

Generally, at least in my experience, this field has only been available when you are sending the record to the Address Unknown file. If you know an address or even the ward name where you are sending the records, this field is always grayed out. I just tested this out on our MLS and got the same results. If it is still grayed out when you do not know the address or new ward, then I would contact LUS.

I tried deleting all the information in the address fields, and the notes section is still grey-out. By the way, what's "LUS"? Local unit...specialist? Thanks for the advice.

There is a question above the address that says "Is the new address known?". You have to answer this question 'No' in order to enable the notes field. This will also turn all of the address fields grey. Just removing the information from the address fields won't do it.

LUS stands for Local Unit Support.

The radio button "No" to the question "Is the new address known?" must be selected. LUS is local unit support.

The other option is to flag the record to instruct the new unit to contact the prior Bishop. When you do that, the new unit receives the Bishop's contact information so they can call for details regarding the member. This is normally for disciplinary council issues, but I suppose could be used for other purposes if the bishop feels they warrant it.

I have been successful at using LUS to correct information for members not in our ward (where relatives are). For example, a parent knew their less-active son had moved asked what they could do to keep him "found." Since we thought he might end up in the Address Unknown file, I sent his new address (with the son's name, birthdate and Membership number from the parent's record in our ward) to LUS through the e-mail function in MLS. I received a very nice reply a few days later that they had moved his record to the correct ward.
