Missionary Addresses not available at lds.org

#1

Post by erictuttle »

There is not a location on the new lds.org for Missionary Addresses. On the classic website, our ward would list the missionary's name, mission and address. Anyone in the ward could access this to write letters. I'm able to access the classic website but that will not be an option for long. Could this be added to the new lds.org site?

There are a number of things not on the new website. Presumably they'll be added before it's taken down.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

At this point, only the calendar and directory portions of the Classic website have been moved over to lds.org. As you can read in the Stake and Ward Websites: Overview, the other portions are under development. The classic sites will continue to be available until some time after all the functionality has been ported from the classic sites to the new look under lds.org.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

With all the interoperbility we see with church websites nowadays,
I wouldn't be surprised if when the Missionary information is added to
the new website, it will pull all its data from Mission Office computers
and not be able to be edited by local units.

I am just speculating, but if the CDOL was expanded to keep track of
Missionaries, then the developers of the new Missionary section of the
website could use an API to get the names and contact information for
missionaries both serving in a ward and from it.

This would then shift the burden from unit leaders to maintain current
information on missionaries to Mission Offices which are more likely to
have that data anyway. A simple send/receive to an expanded CDOL
then would centralize the information.

Once again, this is just speculation. I have no secret inside source
at the church.

The only issue I see with Atticus' speculation is that to my knowledge, not all mission offices have access to the internet. Even if they do, they may not have the computer resources required.
