Using Electronic version of Scriptures (resource version CD) in language interpreting

#1

Post by jficklin »

As a Spanish/English simultaneous interpreter for my stake, I find the "Scriptures" CD with it's parallel column display of two languages and its fast well indexed searching capabilities to be of great value. Many times a speaker will quote scripture without giving a reference. Using the resource version of the Scriptures CD one can type a phrase from the quoted scripture and quickly find it, then go to it with the corresponding scripture in the other language displayed in the parallel column. All in a matter of seconds. Allows one to quote scripture (especially verses one does not have memorized) rather than having to do a simultaneous interpretation of the scripture.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of the "Scriptures" CD with the new Spanish LDS bible included.

Does anyone else use this resource in this way? Are there other simultaneous interpreters on this forum? Is anyone on this forum involved in the development of this CD?

It would be wonderful for us interpreters if other relevant material like the Proclamation on the Family, For the Strength of Youth, etc. could be added to the CD (in available languages).

I'm willing to bet you would see something like this released online, as oppossed to distributed by CD. I do think that CD product was really neat and feature packed.

Electronic Spanish-English Book of Mormom

#3

Post by dshurtz »

A friend gave me a copy of an electronic spanish-english book of mormon that has been a great help in doing simultaneous translations, preparing training manuals, etc.
It is published by Intellectual Reserve, Inc.

Does anyone know if the new 2009 LDS Reina-Valera version is available yet?

Thanks

The neat update by the church itself of the Spanish Reina-Valera Bible is now available, just as you were waiting for.
Google "LDS View" "Resource Edition"

You may need to pick the updates to allow once you get the base "LDS View" software. This is the exact same software originaly called "The Scriptures" and distributed via CD. It's awesome.
