MLS Training - CBT Needed

#1

Post by johnshaw »

I've been wondering for a while now, why the church hasn't produced a general video on using the MLS software. I have many clerks that find it difficult to find and do things, and I know when asked for data they sometimes say that MLS can't do that, but it's not that MLS can't, it's really that they can't.

I've produced about 10 little 5 to 10 minute how-to CBT's - Dealing with Outstanding checks (outdated at this point) Using the Action/Interview list to drive ordinance tracking (pre-printing forms, following up on missed ordinations), using CDOL to find data, how to recategorize a financial transaction. - just a few

I've always wondered why this isn't something the church provides, and I realize that there are changes that are made continually to the solution, however, the fundamentals of the MLS system are still there, and i'd prefer to have something that I can put in front of new clerks.

Anyone else out there interested in pushing the church to generate, or collaborating together to produce a nice CBT for MLS usage?

The Church has produced several CBTs on using MLS. They are available on lds.org under Record-Keeping and Auditing Training. The videos are a bit out of date, especially the financial videos because of CUBS, and it could certainly cover more topics, but the training does exist. Were you not aware of those training courses, or are you just saying you would like more?

More, more, more - and greater detail would be great and updated for major changes that have happened, for instance, the Tithing Settlement training is great, and still very much applicable, but what I'd really like to see is something that starts on the left side of the tool, and goes through menu item and each option, or at least the major options. Understanding what data is replicated to the website and what isn't, etc...

I know the other obstacle is the web-site, but as a stake leadership we are spending time duplicating ourselves with training on the http://leader.lds.org website.

Also, we could use some practical... HOW to get leaders using these tools more...

Supplemental to the CBT provided in the Record-Keeping and Auditing Training is the information provided in wiki articles covering just about every topic. Those are more up to date than the CBT on the training page. I use the record-keeping and audit training as the initial training and then move into the wiki articles as needed for advanced training.
