MLS Crash after update

#1

Post by chris_burnham »

Upon doing a send / receive I downloaded the update to MLS 3.3 today. It asked me to restart the computer. After doing so, MLS fails to run. When I click on the icon, I see the splash screen for a second, and then it disappears. I confirmed via the process manager that mls.exe is not running, except for brief time I see the splash screen.

Is anyone else having this problem? What steps can I take to resolve it?

I'm an assitant clerk in a BYU student ward with a computer on-campus.

I would first download and re-install MLS 3.3. There are instructions on how to download at https://tech.lds.org/wiki/index.php/MLS_download_site . If that doesn't solve the problem, you can try a clean install following the instructions at https://tech.lds.org/wiki/index.php/MLS ... and_repair . The "Preparation" step has you save the "C:\Program Files\LDS Church\MLS\Data" folder to the desktop. As a precaution, I would also save the "C:\Program Files\LDS Church\MLS\Units" folder to the desktop, and it doesn't hurt to have the your recent backup on hand.

One of my Wards had this problem. I re-installed MLS 3.3 and it worked. Thanks for your help.

So far today I've had one unit in my stake that has had this same exact problem. We uninstalled the old MLS, downloaded and installed the new version, restored the data from backup and all is well.

Fixed

We got the problem fixed. We downloaded mls from mls.lds.org and just ran the mls install. Everything worked just great and it kept all the data (we didn't have to do a restore).

We had the same problem with one ward and we fixed it by installing the full install of 3.3 from mls.lds.org. We didn't have to re-import the data.

Crashed our system too. We downloaded and reinstalled and everything looks back to normal. Our stake tech specialist strongly advised AGAINST doing an "update" via MLS. He's had repeated calls from wards of the update crashing the systems.

FWIW, +1. Inplace reinstall (after tracking down the unit password) worked.
