Maps - Correcting household locations

#1

Post by tbarron »

As stake clerk, I apparently don't have the ability to correct household locations, although the Maps help wiki says:

Stake and ward leaders also mean district and branch leaders. These leaders have additional rights in LDS Maps.

Ward authorized leaders include bishops, the bishop's counselors, ward clerks, assistant ward clerks, and the ward executive secretary.

Stake authorized leaders include stake presidents, the president's counselors, stake clerks, assistant stake clerks, the stake executive secretary, and the stake technology specialist.

The only household location I can correct is for my own family. The system does recognize me as stake clerk.

My Stake President has asked me to correct household locations for our brand new YSA branch asap, which currently lacks a branch clerk. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim,

First of all welcome to the LDS Tech Forum !
The first thing I would suggest you check is to see if the church systems recognize you as Stake Clerk.
If you have access to CDOL (church directory of leaders) I suggest you logon, go to your stake's information, and verify that your calling is properly listed as a standard calling and not a custom calling. If you are not listed then you must make the correction by going into the MLS system at the stake level and properly entering yourself as the stake clerk. It might take a day before the changes go into effect.

If, on the other hand, your position is properly entered, then I suggest you may wish to submit a feedback report giving the details of the problem.

Only ward leaders and clerks can verify address locations. This is documented in the help wiki at Verify a household location, which is under the Ward Leaders section. If you look at the Help for stake leaders section, you'll see that you do indeed have some additional rights, but address verification is not listed as a function of stake leaders.

Since the map system recognizes you as a stake clerk, clearly you are in CDOL as stake clerk, so there's no need to do further verification of that.

So if addresses need to be verified, your only option as a stake clerk is to encourage ward and branch clerks to do the address verification. That encouragement could extend to sitting down with clerks to do it together if your need is urgent. But you cannot do it under your login.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

Thanks for the welcome! I am correctly listed in CDOL and when in Maps and I click on the home icon it correctly lists me as stake clerk.

I just submitted feedback, thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you, that answers my question! A little tricky for our new YSA branch that doesn't yet have a branch clerk, I guess it will be me and the branch president. I wish stake leaders could have the rights to do this as well...

If you read the information under Help for ward leaders it says that only the ward leaders (and it lists those callings) are authorized to maintain and update household names and addresses using LDS Maps. Under Help for stake leaders it says stake leaders may view all ward and stake member information available in LDS Maps, including information for members who choose to hide their information from other stake and ward members. There is no ability to maintain or update information. This is in line with the process of maintaining membership information in MLS. It is done at the unit level.

To perform the function of maintaining information at a unit level you must be listed in MLS of the unit in question in one of the callings for which edit rights are granted. For a stake leader functioning as a unit leader you would need to be entered into MLS as an out-of-unit member and then listed for one of the authorized callings.

Edit: Never mind. I see that Alan got there first with his post.

You could have yourself put in as a branch clerk in the interim which would give you the necessary rights to verify locations.

Thanks all for the help. I've added one of the assistant stake clerks as out-of-unit branch clerk.

Does anyone have a problem viewing the locations of members in the maps. Sometimes I can get the locations to show up on one computer and on another computer I cannot get them to show up. I am not sure what the difference it is. I can see the ariel photo, church locations, etc but I cannot see the members locations. I know they are turned on in the legend. Is it a update for my computer that I am missing?

Sometimes I have the same issue. I have seen that the markers get turned "off", so I have to tell them to show again, and it works fine.
