Changing Class Names without creating new classes

#1

Post by dougstevenson »

Is there a way to change class names (in Primary for example) other than creating a new class, splitting and reassigning? We would like to rename some classes that were pretty generic to be more descriptive for reports. Right now we are writing on the report after it has been printed to get the amount of information we need.

Perhaps this can be done easily already right now. If so we could use some advice.

I assume you're talking about reports in MLS? I'm curious as to what you are wanting to rename the classes to?

Changing Class Names

Looks like your best bet is to create the new class first, but add no students to it. Then remove the class with the old name. It will ask you to redirect the students to another class and you can select the class with the new name. Not the easiest, but not all that hard either.

Missing Child

#4

Post by Mark-p40 »

I am our Ward Clerk. My wife is our Primary Sec. She informed me that one of the children were not showing up on the weekly attendance roster. I have found that the child is not in that class roster or any class at all. The child is in the MLS record under the parents membership record, but not as a ward member. Otherwise no record for the child's exists other than within the parents records. I have tried deleting the child's record and reentering it, but to no avail the child will not appear in the ward's membership directory or in the specified Primary classroom. Any suggestions?
Mark.

Where are you deleting it? In the parent's record? That's not going to work.

Please review the instructions for creating a membership record for a child. I think the phrase is "a child of record".

If you are correctly creating the child and not just editing the parents' record, and it's still not appearing, then call SLC. It's possible you have to do a send/receive and let SLC process it before it appears, but I don't think so.

Thanks for the input. The Bishop and I just spend over 4 hours last night doing this. We have multiple classes in primary and there were some bugs that required that we close what were doing and entering in again to refresh the information. The lack of information was hindering our ability to clearly see who was in what calling and for how long.

I really do appreciate the fact that this program exists, however, there are some things that should be easy but are not like this. In the end we were able to make the changes but it was not fast and not without having to redo some of the entry over again because of some bugs (closing and opening the dialog box to refresh information).

Once again thankful for the tools, just wish they were a little easier to use sometimes.
