Looking for technical details on new calendar

Post by logan_s »

I am looking for specific technical details about the sync function for the new calendar. I assume that it is using either a WebDAV or CalDAV protocol that redirects to the URL of the ics calendar file. If so, what methods would be needed to download the calendar (the ics file itself) to a local computer?

I've been doing it by pasting the URL into my web browser. It then prompts me on where to save the file.

Yes, I tried that at first, but only got the response:

XML Parsing Error: syntax error
Location: http://lds.org/church-calendar/services ... (number)##
Line Number 1, Column 1:.No message body writer found for response class : ResponseStatus.

I tried forcing an http download but it just said the address could not be accessed.

Could I get a straight HTTP download if I used a different URL?

As detailed at length in the thread Calendar sync issues, the calendar sync URLs currently work for some people, and not for others. For those who can sync just fine, accessing their URL in a browser does return a .ics file. For those who can't sync, accessing the URL in a browser will fail. Given what you are reporting, my guess is that your calendar sync doesn't work.

It's nothing you're doing wrong -- you just have to wait until the site gets fixed.

There are a few different problems that folks are experiencing. One of them is when they get a different URL each time they ask for one. Most likely that results in a invalid URL. I think that's the problem you are having.

Yes, it is giving me different URLs each time I request one. It could be that.

I was hoping I could bypass using google/ical sync and just download the calendar directly with http or webDAV; but if it's a server-side issue I guess I'll just have to wait.
Thanks.
