Sound in cultural hall only

#1

Post by lpadron »

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a Christmas party planned in the cultural hall of a Ward meeting house (built about 2007). There are RCA line level jacks next to the podium in the chapel. Want to plug an MP3 player into those line level jacks for ambient music during party.

NOTE: Sound to cultural hall switches off when divider between cultural hall and chapel is shut.

Questions:
1) How do we turn ON the sound in the cultural hall (from the line level jacks in the chapel) without opening the dividers (see NOTE above)?

2) Are there LINE LEVEL jacks located somewhere in the cultural hall independent of the chapel?

3) Is there a separate gain / line level control that can originate from cultural hall . . . AND . . . also drive speakers in the FOYER and other rooms (RS and Primary) from the Cultural Hall?

Any other advise is also appreciated.

This should not be necessary. See the response to question 2 below.

Yes, there should be. Each meetinghouse floor plan may have a different location. But for most of the meetinghouses I have been in the controls are near the retractable wall between the chapel and cultural hall. The controls available will depend on whether there is a stage and how many microphone jacks are present. Look for a small box on the wall somewhere in the cultral hall. It may have a lock on the door. Within the box should be on/off buttons and volume controls and even one microphone jack.

There should be power on/off and volume controls for microphone inputs. You can use the crab box to connect other sound sources to the microphone inputs.

Consult with a member of your bishopric. They should be familiar with your meetinghouse PA capabilities. Your stake technology specialist should also be familiar with these capabilites.

jdlessley got most of your questions. As for the last one - it depends on how it was set up, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Except for the foyer, it probably has a switch that allows you to select "local microphone". If you can find a way of getting the signal to a mic jack in the room, then you'd be set.

Not sure about a more recent setup like the 2007 one described, but a 1999 stake center I'm at has some RCA jacks on the edge of the stage/platform. They were located on the right side facing out from the front of the stage, and you could plug things in there, then use the controls in the box to get sound out to the hall via the speakers that are built in.

Did a ward party where I had some audio level problems, as a result I found out later I got the sound levels too loud on the box stereo I was using to play CDs on that I had hooked up via the jacks, it had an odd setup where I could not use the RCA inputs easily, the stereo was not that good anyway I was using for this.
