MLS 3.3 beta

#1

Post by fletch1027 »

I had seen some references to a 3.3 beta that is compatible with Windows 7? If that is correct, how can I get a copy to test out on a Windows 7 machine?

Generally, only stakes with the permission of the stake president to be beta sites are allowed to install beta versions.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

If you can be a little patient, MLS 3.3 will be the next main release of MLS. So if you have access to the MLS installer, 3.3 should be there in the next month some time. See this thread for more.

In Calgary Canada have recieved this update. Here is a quote from the release notes.

New Features and Changes in MLS 3.3

General Changes
  • Windows 7 Compatibility. MLS is now compatible with Windows 7. MLS will also continue to be compatible with Windows XP. Those using computers with Windows 7 will not be required to run MLS as a Windows administrator. If you are upgrading to Windows 7 on an existing computer, MLS 3.3 should be in place before Windows 7 is installed. If you have questions, please contact your administration office.

I am a little confused. I have been waiting for 3.3 to go live as I have received 7 new computers with Windows 7 and would rather not rebuild. I visited a unit this week and was checking on there computer to find that it already had 3.3 installed? I checked with 3 other units and they all have 3.3.

Is this now live? and if so when will http://mls.lds.org be updated? If it is still in Beta, where can I get this installer, as since we are already updated, I can start distributing these computers (I have permission from our District President to use it, but I was going to wait, obviously there is no need anymore.)

Any direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Maybe all of Canada just became the final beta test? [grin]

Your stake technology specialist may know how to get to the beta site. If he does not, or if you are that specialist, give Local Unit Support (or your area office, whichever is appropriate in Canada) a call and they will give you the URL and password to download the installer.

Or perhaps one of those other units you contacted will have the download information. It has been known to have happened before.

I amend my previous answer. Our stake is not a beta test stake. Yet, I find that a number of our units received MLS 3.3 when they transmitted after November 11th.

This puts us in a quandary. I now have to find the beta site and get everyone up to speed so we can get synchronized again.

I was joking when I said "it has been known to have happened before". Now it is not so funny that it has actually happened again.

Another beta has apparently escaped, and we will have to manually install it to get everyone operational again.

Hail 3.3.0_19158 November 11, 2010 10:08. Long live the download.

MLS 3.3 downloaded to our stake in BC, Canada as well. It appears that we are indeed beta testers once again. (Sigh)

On the plus side, one of the new features in 3.3 allows the stake clerks to update ordinance information instead of waiting for the ward clerks to do it. I've already updated two ordinances that I've been waiting on the ward clerk to do.

MLS 3.3 Beta

#10

Post by rick.winterton »

I'm a stake clerk. I got a call today from one of my units complaining that when they try to open some membership records, a window pops up indicating that "An Error Occurred". When I went to check it out, I discovered that they had version 3.3 installed! Our stake is not supposed to be on any beta versions. I called SLC and they pointed me to the beta site and suggested that I download and reinstall MLS 3.3, which I am doing as I write this.

In other words, if you want the beta, call SLC and let them point you to it. Otherwise, there is a reason why they call it Beta and you may not want to know those reasons.
