HELP! - October 2010 GC Satellite Broadcast

#1

Post by danimarc »

Hello my fellow Brothers/Sisters

 Help!

Last April, I decided to purchase an FTA receiver and fire up our old BUD (Big Ugly Dish) and we were able to view the GC in the comfort of our home. We hadn't done that since the late 90's until the Church had switch to digital.
Last week, I went to check again the Bonneville Satellite Broadcast info at www.bonneville.info/satellite.cfm
We were suppose to see it on Galaxy 23 (Digital) Transponder 24c,121 degrees West, but this time I was unable to find it. The only difference was the transponder, so I did different types of scans with my FTA receiver (FTA and Blind Scans). But to no avail this time.
The information from the Bonneville communique was last updated on Sept.14, 2010.
Does anybody know why we couldn't get it this time? Did they do a last minute satellite change?
Do they rebroadcast the GC? If they do, would we be able to see it?
Please help. We were very dissappointed!

Note: We are unable to get the analog feed on AMC-11 at 131 degrees west. We live in the country and because of a small mountain, the lowest satellite I can get is at 121 degrees west.

If anyone can shed some light, my dear wife and I would be very grateful!

I'd have a look at this page and the lyngsat pages linked from it:
http://www.byutv.org/about/CountryInfo/8-32

I don't think it is on Galaxy23 FTA. According to this page it is encrypted on G23.

Have a look here to see what satellites you should be able to get from your location.

Try SatMex 5 at 116.8°W too.

Thanks silid for your help.

NSS 9 is at 177 degrees west. As I wrote in my post under the Note "... We live in the country and because of a small mountain, the lowest satellite I can get is at 121 degrees west."
I forgot to mention that I only have C-band on my BUD. I guess I'll have to try to add Ku-band.

I would still like to know if Bonneville did a last minute satellitte change, since I was able to get the broadcast last April from the Bonneville Satellite Broadcast info at www.bonneville.info/satellite.cfm.

I doubt they did a last minute change, as that would have affected the whole world wide system. However all of the current carriers are listed on the Wiki at https://tech.lds.org/wiki/index.php/Wor ... e_carriers

They do language rebroadcast of general conference throughout the entire week following general conference, though I don’t know what or when, and since it is passed, it won’t help you this time, but maybe next?

Thanks Steve for your reply.
Yesterday (Thu. Oct.21,2010) I had my satellite guy come up because I wanted to add Ku band on our BUD.
I mentionned to him that this Oct we weren't able to get conference like last April.
There's quite a bit of things we have to keep track/adjust when we use a digital FTA on an analog BUD.
So it turns out that I had not changed the polarity on my BUD when I did the FTA scan.
Last April, the broadcast was on transponder 17 (odd channel number) and my polarity happened to 'sit' correctly as I did an FTA scan.
This Oct.,since the transponder was on transponder 24 (even channel number), the FTA scan couldn't 'see' it.
We should be OK for next General Conference.

Glad to know you seem to have figured it out.
