Helping the Stake Technology Specialist

#1

Post by cnsieler-p40 »

Hello I ran into this site by accident. That is one of the reasons that I have been so frustrated as a stake technology speacilist. It is so hard to get information and questions answered. Thank heaven for the recent web site!! It was needed years ago. I would like to have a central place to go for all my questions. My first question is about upgrading the FHL computers to XP. When is that going to happen? Now that we have the new indexing program some of the folks would like to do that while they are on shift at the FHL.

Although this site is dedicated to technology for the Church, I know that there is a specific site in the works targeted directly to Stake Technology Specialists. I don't have a time frame on that site, however.

Can the machines you have handle it? XP needs quite a bit more horsepower then Win2000 and doesn't really add anything in the way of functionality.

The church is only responsable for one (maybe two) machines that have been issued to the FHC. The rest are probably donations. I've been told that the church is sending out replacements for older machines as "hand-me-downs" become available. But you'll have to get in line behind our P3/450MHz machines. :D And you'll have to install LanDesk on the FHC machines so SLC knows what you have.

But that said, you can order a CD "image" for FHC machines by calling FHC Support.

It is good news that they are trying to put together a web site to help stake technology specialists. The information flow is getting better but still needs work.

Stake Technology Specialist Site Needed

Post by srweight »

As an old Stake Technology Specialist I can say that a Stake Technology Specialist Site is really something I can use. I would love to see all areas covered, i.e., MLS, UWS, Missionary Site, Tech Support for equipment and software.
I am looking for informatiion right now about Desktop 5.5 and an HP Laserjet priinter and how to make them work faster.

COOL!!! :)

What's the "navigation" to get there? I can't find it anywhere under "Serving in the Church". The link is too ugly to forward in non-HTML email.

It looks like it's Serving in the Church -> Melchizedek Priesthood -> Stake Technology Specialist.

First place I looked. I got as far as Melchizedek Priesthood and couldn't find STS.

Darn. Must be one of those qualifying exam things. Have to be able to find it to be qualified for the job. :D
