Leader and Clerk Resources access on new.lds.org

#1

Post by benjamincarleski »

Ever since it was in Beta, when I log in to the new.lds.org site I see a "Leader and Clerk Resources" item in the dropdown of the Tools menu. Once it switched from beta.lds.org to new.lds.org, I also see "Membership Records" and "Organizations and Callings". These seem like a great addition and make it much easier to get ward reports without having to drive into the Church or fight for computer time on Sunday. I hope they continue to expand these areas.

I am the Ward Executive Secretary, but the features in here seem to apply to many leadership positions (such as the ability to print class rolls). None of the other leaders in the ward seem to be able to see any of these, including counselors in the bishopric (our Bishop hasn't gotten around to looking, so I don't know if he would be able to or not). It would seem that at least the counselors in the bishopric should be able to access these Leader and Clerk Resources item.

I have searched and cannot seem to find where on the Wiki these leadership tools are being tracked, or where there is documentation for them. Does anyone know who should have access to these areas or where there is any documentation on the leadership tools? Is there some site on the Wiki or somewhere else that is tracking what is going to be added to this area and a rough timeline?

Currently it is available to Bishop, Ward Clerk and Executive Secretary. The are adding Councilors and Assistant Clerks with the next release.

Yes there is, but we aren't suppose to give dates. It wouldn't be good if something came up that held up the release.

The best I can say is soon.

Okay, I was just wondering if by end of year or next spring. Soon sounds good as long as it doesn't turn into indefinite delays. :D

Is there a way we can tell when the new version has been released? Is there a version in the HTML I can peek at periodically, will there be new reports or features, or will the councilor just need to keep checking back periodically?

I'm assuming that because of the nature of this area, it is an internal-only project, and so I understand that there isn't much detail that needs to be released to the community. Still, it would be nice if there was a place on the Tech Wiki or the Clerk's Wiki that talked a little about it, what features were planned, and maybe had a very rough timeline.

I just had to chuckle a little at this comment. I work in the field and understand completely...

I understand as well, I just hope it doesn't turn into some Church projects that I knew of when I worked at the help desk that had a planned rollout and got delayed 18+ months with an eternally changing release date. :P I hope it's a minor release to update roles and rights. :D

It appears some functionality is now in place. As a bishopric counselor, I am now able to sign in to http://new.lds.org/leaders and browse the various reports, where I was not able to do so last week.

Well, it's perhaps half in place. I'm an assistant stake clerk, and I still have no access. :(
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.
