APO Address?

#1

Post by coloradotechie-p40 »

Our Elder's Quorum President recently wrote a letter to a member and the letter was returned with an APO AP address (96264).

Does that mean the member moved out of the ward?
Should we transfer the records anywhere?

I suppose the EQ president can write the member at the new address... we just weren't sure if there was a ward/branch where the records should be transferred to with an APO AP address.

Thanks~!

An APO AP address is a military overseas address for the Pacific area. This member may be permanently stationed at a Pacific installation or on temporary assignment. There is no way for you to know this without contacting the member or someone who knows their status. You cannot track down a physical location for this member just using the APO AP address without more information. That information includes the unit to which the member belongs. Even then the location may be classified. Until you get more specific information about their status you probably should not move the record out. If after three months they still have not returned to your ward you could possibly move them out and let CHQ locate them using their contacts within the military.

One clue: the ZIP Code appears to be tied to Kunsan Air Base in South Korea.

You may want to see this post which references the MLS help file's section on handling records for members in the military.

Also, be aware that APO addresses are the same as post office boxes - they do NOT represent physcial addresses, so should not be used to move records. However, you can send a letter there to request a physcial address so that you can move the records.
