MLS 3.2.1 released

#1

Post by aebrown »

MLS version 3.2.1 is now available. I imagine it will be downloaded on your next Send/Receive, although I haven't verified that yet, or stake technology specialists or stake clerks can download the full version from mls.lds.org (password required).

The release notes are very simple:
  • Software Bugs. Some software bugs have been fixed in this version.
So it doesn't look like a very big release, but it's always nice to know ahead of time that a patch will be downloaded.

Indeed, it will be downloaded on your next Send/Receive. Fortunately, it is a small download (less than 230 KB) so the transmission is quite brief.

Yes, 3.2.1 downloaded while I was dealing with a problem machine today. It started out as the classic missing logins.

Going back one folder restored the logins, but then during the S/R I got a error message (something about unable to write to the database and call the STS). Despite the error, the S/R continued and the patch downloaded and installed itself without asking.

(Feature request - how about asking if it can be installed? In this case I had a problem on my hands and as the rest of my story shows, it wasn't a good time.)

I tried a number of things. Some of them causing me to be unable to get into MLS again until I deleted the data directory. ("data", not "units") But in the end we had to go back yet another folder before everything worked. I don't know how much the upgrade in the middle of this hurt things, but it sure didn't build my confidence that other upgrades will go smoothly.

One tip - if you're unable to log in and get some kind of Java message about a language setting, rename the "data" folder.

One thing to be wary of: the "data" folder contains downloaded financial statements and saved forms. So simply deleting or renaming that folder may have negative effects.

Of course, in your case that may have been necessary to get the system up and running again, but you may need to request financial statements or recreate lost saved forms.

From a clerk in a remote branch. I gave him the password for mls.lds.org, and hope he can download and install it.

"Hi, 3.2 was downloaded this morning(8-1) & now MLS is inop. The log in screen says 3.1.4 & when I enter my password, it works for a while & then the MLS portion of the screen has only a white background. I tried turning the computer off & on but no help. HELP ME MISTER WIZARD!!! If there is something I can do, let me know & I can come back during the week. I tried to go into the mls.lds web site to redownload, but I don't remember the branches password. If I can find the password, I'll try again. Bro A"

Installing MLS from the installer available at the MLS download site will more than likely correct the diffuculties he is having.

Just from his description the patch update attempted during an MLS update was either corrupted or not complete. It also looks like the incremental updates have not all been installed or successful. MLS version 3.1.4 was several versions previous. Jumping versions via a patch update may be the problem since there were identified transmission problems for version 3.2.0 that have been corrected.

I am assuming that he meant MLS version 3.2.1 and not 3.2.0 since 3.2.1 is the latest version.

If he still has problems, especially with transmissions, after installing the installer from mls.org then take a look at the thread 3.2 No Send/Receive. It also has the solution to the problem.

While doing a clean reinstall from the latest full installer is the surest bet, it could be the clerk just forgot to reboot the machine after the patching was completed.
