internet in classroom

Our family history consultant would like to do a class once a month for a combined priesthood and relief society. We don't have a family history center in our building and was wondering how to get the internet into the classroom. We don't have wireless in the building but do have it in the clerks office.

I'm a bit confused. If you have wireless Internet in the clerk's office, then you have it in at least part of the building, yet you said it was not in the building. In any case, all connections to the Internet should have the active involvement of the stake technology specialist under the authorization of the stake president. The STS should be able to sort out these issues.

Even if the wireless connection is not accessible throughout the building, it would be accessible in classrooms near the clerk's office. So if the stake president authorizes use of the Internet connection for that purpose, it would simply be a matter of obtaining the wireless access key and holding the class in reasonably close proximity to the clerk's office or wherever the wireless access point is located.

If you have an Internet connection in the building, then there should be a firewall which has multiple ports. Another option would be to run a cable from that firewall to the classroom.

With all these options, one should be properly concerned about security and make sure that only the authorized people use the connection. But the stake technology specialist should be capable of helping with those issues, too.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

We received permission from our Stake President to bring a wireless router in during Sunday School for our Family History class to use. It is disconnected at the end of the class. But as with most items it would be up to your local leaders.

Under the direction of the Stake Presidency, we have installed wireless routers in each Clerk's office.

This does a good job of covering just about all of our 4 buildings with wireless access.

All routers are secured, and the access key is handed out by the Bishops at their discretion.

We also have the church managed firewalls in place in all buildings.
