Assigning New Bishopric In MLS
Our stake is creating a new YSA ward and the bishopric will be made up of members from other wards in the stake. How do I assign members from other wards as the bishopric members while keeping their records in their home wards?

You'll find this information in the LDS Wiki.GregTaylor wrote:Our stake is creating a new YSA ward and the bishopric will be made up of members from other wards in the stake. How do I assign members from other wards as the bishopric members while keeping their records in their home wards?

You just need to create out of unit records for these people, then they can be added to callings.GregTaylor wrote:Our stake is creating a new YSA ward and the bishopric will be made up of members from other wards in the stake. Pay attention to the part
Also, for leaders to be assigned as a Bishop, Branch President, etc. they must have the proper Priesthood so the Ordinance section should be filled in as well

One additional item that you may wish to look at is the home page of these "Out of Unit" members. On the stake web site there's a link to "Non-Resident members". You'll find it under the administrator functions.GregTaylor wrote:Thank you! I passed that information on to our clerk so hopefully it will be easy for him now that you have pointed us in the right direction.
An Out-of-Unit member will still be sent to his home web site when he logs into the ward web site. If these members wish to have their default web site page as the branch they're serving in, then create a Non-Resident entry for them on the stake web site and assign them to the branch. When they login to their ward web site the default home page will then be their branch assignment. They will still have access to their home ward as well as all other wards in the stake.

To clarify the above post:Techgy wrote:One additional item that you may wish to look at is the home page of these "Out of Unit" members.
Until that post, the discussion in this thread has referred only to MLS Out of Unit member records. What Techgy is talking about is a quite distinct issue related to the Local Unit Web Sites (LUWS), also known as Stake & Ward Web Sites. Here are the important points to understand:
- The creation of an Out of Unit Member record for a member in MLS has absolutely no effect on how that member interacts with LUWS.
- If it is desirable for a member serving in a ward outside his home ward to have access to that outside ward's LUWS, then the stake LUWS administrator for the outside ward's stake can add the member as a Non-resident member.
- When a person is added to a stake's LUWS as a non-resident member, the administrator specifies what ward that person is assigned to.
- When the person logs into LUWS after being added as a non-resident member, they will be taken directly to the Web site of that outside ward. They will still have access to their home ward's site, but will have to use a bookmark or navigate some other way to the home ward or stake site.
- If the member is not added as an LUWS non-resident member, then the member will have no access to the LUWS for that ward or stake (beyond the ward/stake home pages, which any Internet user can see).
- A member can be added as an LUWS non-resident member without being an MLS Out of Unit Member (but it's generally helpful to do both).

Typically I think that's done only for members that come from another stake. How does it work for a in-stake Out-of-Unit member?Techgy wrote:An Out-of-Unit member will still be sent to his home web site when he logs into the ward web site. You can add a member of the stake as a Non-resident member (that's the correct term for the LUWS feature -- the term "Out of Unit member" applies only to MLS).RussellHltn wrote:Typically I think that's done only for members that come from another stake. If you do add a member of the stake as a Non-resident member, then there are three effects:
- Upon logging in to LUWS, the person will land on the designated ward's home page, rather than the home page of the person's home ward
- The person will appear in the designated ward's Membership Directory, just like any other ward member
- The person can be added to leadership callings in the designated ward

OK, thanks for the correction. This is the first I remember seeing it used for "in-stake" members.
Adding them as "Out-of-Unit" member in MLS doesn't put them in the LUWS directory?
