Sharp projector

It looks like our old Sharp has reached end of life. It shuts down on its own at random with a red power light. I don't think it's overheating. It's probably due for replacement, but I want to be a good steward and ask in case it's something that's a cheap fix.

What model do you have?

The Red power lamp almost sounds like it could be an overheating problem. Has the bulb been replaced? If so, perhaps the replacement was a little hotter than the first one and the cooling is insufficient. Just a few thoughts.

Take some compressed air and blow out the cooling pathways thoroughly while keeping the fans from turning with a pencil or toothpick. Sometimes accumulated dust will greatly reduce the cooling effectiveness.

Along those lines, make sure the fan(s) come on at all when it's powered up. Sometimes the bearings go out on them.

I'll have to check.

The TEMP light is not on. The power light normally turns red when it cycles down. But I don't think it does cycle down. It just drops. It still has the original bulb. Perhaps it's failing in a unique way that's stressing the power supply. I think it's acting like a power issue. Switching power supplies seems to be a common failure anymore. I wonder if I can find my ESR meter.

if the projector is one that is provided by the Church (FM Group) and not purchased by the Stake, you can ask the FM Group to have the projector repaired and or replaced if it is not worth repair.

No. Not yet. I suspect calling the FM group for repair/replacement is the next step.
