Does anyone out there use Google Docs for storing and sharing meeting minutes and other documents related to leadership callings? Are there directions or suggestions to not do this? If not, does anyone out there have any tips or cautions? My biggest concern, I suppose, is security of the information stored there...

Golden rule, if you are not sure dont do it. OR find ways to resolve your concerns (which you are starting here).

If you use the search facility in the forum you might find some useful posts about the subject. Here is one.

It seems that some bishoprics use it and others dont. For those that do use it it seems they are making sure they are not including anything sensitive in the documents (no detailing private issues, addresses, phone numbers etc).

Boomerbubba said " If you wouldn't put something in an email, don't put it in Google Doc" and I would add "not everything that I goes in emails would I put in Google Doc".

Speaking to your Bishop or Stake President about it is what we would always be advicing in this forum on issues that are not "clear". What is ok for one Stake might not be ok for another stake as people in different stakes are different. The fact that some configurations on church computers dont allow access and some do suggest each situation has to be thought about.

I say do it. We do, with great results. Online collabaration. We can edit online documents in real time while holding meetings over the phone, and other users can see that change in real time. Obviously, we do not include any overly sensitive information there. However, we do use it for callings, speakers, scheduling, programs, etc. With great success. Some had reservations at first, but quickly came to see its usefulness. I once held a Bishopric meeting with 5 people, all in different states, and 2 were overseas. It is frustrating to have progress stop due to someone traveling, especially in this technology age.
