We've been having a number of issues similar to this in MLS. We have 2 families whose children are both missing from MLS. One has young children and said that they used to be in the records, and the other family has teenage children. The ward clerk called Salt Lake about the first family and whomever he spoke to said we should re-create the records in MLS for the children. I have been reluctant to do this though. We also had a high priest who had the names of the men that performed his priesthood ordinations go missing even though the names were on a previous hard copy we had of his membership record. I'm hoping this bug is behind all of these issues.

Will MLS 3.2 fix this by chance?

This bug has affected around 10% of our Stake membership. Luckily we have not noticed any problems at the Ward Level, just on the Stake MLS. I would happily beta test 3.2 if it would fix this problem. :)

This thread seems to be talking about two totally different issues. The thread began talking about members disappearing from a ward's MLS. What was described in the first few posts is quite unusual.

But others are talking about people missing from stake MLS. For stake MLS, the issue is one of synchronizing data between wards and stakes; a data refresh will generally fix the problem when it occurs. I've seen this happen a few times, but it's not hard to fix -- I've never heard of a situation where a data refresh did not correct such a problem.

The post that says that CHQ has confirmed that this is a bug was the first post to mention a stake version of MLS, yet it purported to confirm the "bug" described in the earlier reports, which dealt only with ward MLS. I'm not at all convinced that the issue reported at the beginning has been confirmed, or that everyone chiming in on this thread is talking about the same issue.

I have not seen the problem at the ward level, but it is definitely a bug at the stake level. Refreshing the data does not fix the problem. I have spoken with SLC a couple of times and they are still working on it. On average, I have about 300 to 400 members of our stake missing at any given moment. It is extremely annoying as members disappear randomly and it messes with callings, temple recommend activations, and just about everything else. I have also discovered that some records are only partial records. The member's name and record number may be there but their family members, ordinances, contact information, etc. will be missing.

I had a similar problem with our stake database. The problem seemed to go away after I downloaded and installed a fresh copy of MLS 3.1.5.

I've also had some of our wards do that when they have been having unusual problems. It seems to fix a number of glitches.

Hope that's helpful to you.

I suspect that the downloaded MLS contains a update Java runtime that MLS uses. I'm not sure as the patches contain the Java updates. Note that this install of Java is hidden and won't show in the normal places.

I'm not sure what this post is addressing. The installation of Java Runtime that is installed with the full download of MLS is not what I would call "hidden"; it is not in the same place that a regular Java install will put it (by default C:\Program Files\Java); rather, it is automatically installed in C:\Program Files\jre6. But it's in plain sight.

No one has mentioned Java issues in this thread. Are you implying that the problems mentioned might be related to an out of date version of Java? I haven't seen any indication of that being a cause of any of these problems, but I suppose it's possible. And if that is the case, then it would be good to note that installing a full download of MLS is the most straightforward way to insure that MLS is using an updated version of the JRE.

Unless something has changed, it's hidden in the sense that it does not appear in the add/remove programs list. It doesn't show up in the Java icon found in Control Panel. Unless you know where to look, it's not obvious that it's there, much less what version is currently installed.

I offer that as a theory. It would certainly explain things, including why downloading and installing the full version fixes things.

For reference, the version of Java installed can be found by right clicking on C:\Program Files\jre6\bin\javaw.exe and selecting properties. The version installed with my test system is 1.6.0_11-b03 Full Version / 1.6.110.3 File Version. This is not the most current version of Java, but it is the version MLS was last packaged with.

This is exactly the same problem that I have. Right at this moment I am not even showing on the Stake MLS. I guess I get to take a break till they show up again :)

Seriously, I am going through a realignment of 4 Wards and the creation of a new one and it has been quite the headache trying to account for 300+ members who are missing when presenting proposals to the Stake President.

I will have our stake technology specialist look at downloading a brand new version of MLS 3.1.5 and hope that it fixes the problem as stated by another post here.

Sorry if I derailed the thread earlier.

We have gone through a series of data/missing member problems at the stake level over the past few months. In most cases, we have solved it by instructing the wards to do a membership refresh, then done the same at the stake.

When we have allowed sufficient time for the refreshes to take place, the stake database has usually (but not always) come up to speed.

Another key is to make absolutely certain that each unit is using the same version of MLS. We had a case where one unit dropped off the map because of an unauthorized upgrade (there will be another post in another thread). Through this experience, we learned that the stake data does not have a chance unless everyone is on the same page, i.e., the same version of MLS.
