Hiding a member - spouse request

#1

Post by rjamesh77 »

I am the Ward Clerk and a member of our ward has requested that his wife be hidden on records so that nobody will know she is a member. Background info - Some time ago, his wife told him she didn't want to be a member anymore. She got him to say he would take care of it. However, he never felt right about doing this and he did not act on her request. Bottom line is that while she is of this state of mind, he wants her to remain a member but have her name hidden to anyone (Quorum or RS Pres, Missionaries, etc) who might call her in an effort to reach out to the inactives. He believes she will hit the roof if she finds out she is still on the rolls.

Can I hide her? Should I? I am sympathetic to his concern but not sure if there is anything I can do to accommodate his request or if I would be acting counter to guidelines. Any help provided via this forum will be greatly appreciated.

There are no "procedures" for hiding an actual membership record.

At the Local Unit Web Site you can hide her information (an Admin can do it). Other than that, I think any attempt to "hide" the record will just backfire when everyone tries to locate the member again.

I personally believe that the wisest thing to do in this case would be to consult with your bishop and follow his guidance.

I think the bishop will be able to carefully counsel the ward council and others on the situation, and also work with the husband in this case.

Not from the people you want to hide her from.

At best you can hide her on the website. But that will not remove her from any class rolls.

I'm with Larry in thinking that it's best that you inform the Bishop and let him take it from there.

The procedure for having one's name removed is detailed in the CHI. I don't have the exact language, but I doubt if it would allow the husband "to take care of it for her".
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

I also agree with Larry and Russell, this should be placed in the hands of the bishop and he can contact the administration office if needs be for information.
