Looking for Cisco BSCU software

#1

Post by superdave98 »

Greetings,

I'm an Stake Executive Secretary/Stake Technology Specialist and I recently was contacted by one of our wards. Apparently when Internet was installed in their building, a Cisco AP1231G was installed in the ceiling crawlspace, but never configured.

I met a member of the Bishopric at the building and we tracked down the location of the AP. We managed to do a factory reset on the unit and we can now see the Wifi network and in fact, we can use it to connect to the Internet, although we turned it off because we still need to configure security, etc.

We ran into a problem in that the unit didn't reset to the default IP address that Cisco outlines in their manual. We can't talk to it with a web browser on either the wired or wireless connection, so I can complete the configuration. At this point, I'm trying to find a copy of Cisco's Base Station Configuration Utility (BSCU), which apparently came on a CD in the original box, but no one can locate. I'm hopeful the BSCU software will recognize the AP and allow me to configure it.

I've tried searching of the Cisco web site, but I'm unable to find anywhere that this software can be downloaded. Does anyone have a disk that they could make available or know of a location where it can be downloaded. We are the legal owners of the AP, so it seems logical that we should be able to use the software to configure it.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Dave

It seems that the first question that should be answered is "Where did that access point come from?"

Does that building have an official Family History Center, and is that why the Internet connection was installed? In many cases, buildings with official FHCs had wireless networks installed by the Church (coordinated by the local FM Group). I know that's what happened with our stake's FHC. In such a situation, not only the firewall, but also the wireless access points are managed by the Global Service Desk, not by the stake.

When I have had configuration issues with any of our WAPs in our stake center, I have worked with the GSD and they have been able to do any configuration from their end.

If, on the other hand, the WAP was installed by the stake, then as STS you're following the right procedure in trying to figure out how to configure it yourself. Unfortunately, I don't know how to help you with the software you seek.

Thanks for the thought

Alan,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, no one in the ward seems to know who did it or why it was done. I'll call the FM group and see if they know how it came to be there.

Per Alan_Brown posting

Please contact the LDS Global Service Desk and they can do a remote configuration using their standard LDSAccess setup

You will need the unit number, building name, Property Number (contact your FM group or use cdol.lds.org) and obtain the "Default Gateway" IP address (start > run > cmd > ipconfig)

Also, you will need someone on site to work and test with LDS Global Service Desk
