Just came across this and am wondering if this is a discrepancy or if "Electronic Donations" and "Donations by Wire" are different.

This page was removed so as not to encourage electronic donations

But this page still gives instructions for wire donations

They are different. Donations by Wire are funds sent through the bank wire transfer system. This system has been around for a long time and is not the same as the much newer "bill pay" system with which many are familiar.

It would be interesting to know what is meant by "extreme cases." Electronic donations is a vital service to the thousands of military service members we have deployed around the world who are not able to mail checks from the war front to their bishops.

Great. Thanks for clearing that up.
