MLS Install problem

#1

Post by basinclerk-p40 »

Hi all,

I am part of a newly formed stake. Currently we have no stake technology specialist, so I'm hoping to get some help on this forum.

This week the stake gave our ward a new computer and I have been trying to set it up. I found the mls.lds.org link and have installed MLS and the security software found there.

The trouble I am having is that I can't log into MLS on the new computer. All the usernames are showing up, but passwords are not functioning for any of the accounts.

If I can't log in to MLS, how can I reset any of the passwords? Any suggestions you can provide or link would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find much information on my own and my frustration is growing.

The link CzechRM gave is for previous installations of MLS where the usernames are no longer available.

From your post I gather that you installed MLS for the first time on the computer. Is that correct? If so, you would have been asked to provide the first administrator username and password. If you did that and set up other user accounts and are now unable to see the list of user names then the article CzechRM linked to has all the information you need to correct the situation.

If the situation is different let us know and we will try to provide some more alternatives.

It was a first time install. The strange thing was however, that the usernames showed up on the login screen. It was only the passwords that weren't functioning, so I don't know what information is linked to your unit number and what information is not.

Finally I just copied the whole mlsdata folder from the old computer to the new one and I was able to log in. I'm keeping the old computer for a couple of days to make sure everything is right with the new one.

If it's a first time install, there shouldn't be ANY names (other then the newly created admin) showing up. The fact there are names suggests there's data on the computer. I wouldn't expect there to be any unless you've just done a restore.

Could the computer be a "used" computer and you were trying to use old passwords?
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

It was a first time install for that computer, but he was clearly restoring data from an existing MLS installation on another computer:

Some details are missing somewhere. Glad he got it fixed.
