MLS 3.1 YSA Quarterly Report changes

#1

Post by aebrown »

In the MLS 3.1 Release Notes, we are advised of a change to the Quarterly Report, where we will be required to report YSA attendance at priesthood and Relief Society meetings. Then it says:
The revised Quarterly Report will be activated in MLS after the fourth quarter ends (after December 31, 2009).

It seems that this is saying that we will be required to submit this data for the 4th Quarter. If so, we should be letting quorum and RS secretaries know in advance so that they can submit this new information the first week of January.

Also, I'm curious -- I would speculate that this new data will be used to calculate the portion of the Budget Allowance that is related to YSA, rather than simply using the sacrament meeting percentage to estimate YSA activity. Does anyone know for certain?

I'm wondering if there will be anything done to the rolls to assist the secretaries in identifying the YSA?

That's a good suggestion, but there is nothing on the priesthood or RS rolls at this point in the MLS 3.1 beta.

It would appear that secretaries are stuck with getting a separate list of YSAs, then going through the roll for the reporting month and counting how many of them attended. It does sound a bit tedious.

I wonder if that's the change that will kick in for next quarter? What happens if you print a 1Q 2010 roll using today's date? If if you advance the date on a test system into 2010?

I doubt it. Instead, I'm sure there will be a link on the quarterly report for YSA that will print a report just like there currently is for Primary, YM, YW, etc. I hand those reports to the corresponding secretaries and tell them to mark it up with those that attended, based on their attendance rolls. This would just be one (or two) more report to print, hand out, and collect.

I doubt that this will happen. Considering we have to report how many Prospective Elders show up to priesthood meeting, and yet the rolls do not indicate this.

I do not have a definitive answer and your speculation may be entirely correct. However, Elder Oaks presided at our stake conference this weekend and he spent some time in our presidency and Priesthood Leadership meetings talking about the concern the Brethren have for the YSA. This change may be a way to help SLC get a better handle on YSA levels of activity.

While I served as HP 2nd Asst/Secretary (depended on the group leader), and mission leader, our ward had reports printed from within MLS for both singles groups.

You should be able to print one for the 18-30 age group (YSA) and one for the over-30 singles from MLS without having to generate a custom report. In versions of MLS out at the time, these reports were very clean looking in format, while a couple of custom reports we did looked rather clunky. I'm thinking the MLS 2.4 to 2.6 days, this was about three years ago.
