We need NEWSLETTER IDEAS for our Branch
We need NEWSLETTER IDEAS for our Branch.
We thought to include our announcements, activities, lessons, etc on the back page of the Weekly Program, but now we wish to just do a monthly newsletter that can also be mailed to less active members.
I need to see some ideas. (I have the software).
Thanks,
Michael

Our ward switched to an online version in PDF format that members can download. It includes calendar items, message from the bishopric; primary activities; priesthood assignments for MP; YM lessons, activities and Scouts; YW lessons and activities with personal progress information, Relief Society news and calendar; birthdays; move ins and outs; callings and releases; missionary addresses with a brief snippet from a currently serving missionary; stake activities.
Have we left anything out? By putting it on the web, it has save printing costs and included more pages. It has worked well for our ward
I would say the key is to do what works for your branch.

A PDF version is a great solution. It can be put on the branch's LUWS (if they have one), which encourages member activity there.
To reach everyone, we also print a few and have them available on a table in the foyer before and after Sacrament Meeting.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

My opinion
Here's my rule of thumb for what goes in the newsletter:
(1) Anything that anyone want's to put in the weekly Sacrament Mtg program, that isn't the actual Sacrament Meeting program that week, or an event occurring in the forthcoming week.
So pretty much move all the other clutter, content, and long-term/monthly calendaring to the newsletter. If you move useful stuff to the newsletter (announcements, events, lesson schedules, etc) you make the newsletter worth looking at regularly. People will want and need to see it, so it'll be a better newsletter. If everyone gets what they normally need from the weekly program, that's all they'll seek out.

Perhaps if you identify the software you have will help those who have a sample to post the best document file format.Michael Newman wrote:

I'm a bit confused as to what it is you're in need of.
Perhaps you are looking for samples of actual ward newsletters???
Although I'm sure that could be provided by those who have done it, I'd suggest that you hold a branch brain-storming session. Get a few heads together and throw around some ideas. You need to identify just what it is that the branch has interest in and then try and fill those needs.
You might get some help from the following web site;

For the most part, Microsoft Office (which includes Word and Publisher). If there is some other software I need to acquire, my office may already have it.jdlessley wrote:Perhaps if you identify the software you have will help those who have a sample to post the best document file format.

What I need is samples showing the format, design, look, feel of what wards have done so that we can move into inputing our items into a new template. Can you help?
