Need Help with Translating English to Spanish

#1

Post by WelchTC »

As a community, you have done a fantastic job in the past with helping us with translations. We have another quick need. We are considering opening a couple of forums for Spanish speaking members. Can someone help me translate the following into Spanish?

---- BEGIN TRANSLATION ----

Getting Started for New Clerks
Discuss basic duties of stake and ward clerks, including where to begin.

General Clerk Discussions
Use this forum to discuss issues that are not found in any of the other clerk and stake technology specialist forums.

Membership Help
Discuss questions around local unit policies for membership (creating records, transferring records, etc.) This forum should not contain specific financial or membership information.

MLS Support, Help and Feedback
Discussions around using and interfacing with the Church MLS program.

----- END OF TRANSLATION -----

Thank you for your help!

I'll give a crack at it. Someone else can correct my Spanish. :)

Hablar de los derechos básicos de secretarios de estaca y rama, incluidos como comenzar.

Foro General de Secretarios
Utilice este foro para hablar de las cuestiones que no se encuentran en los otros foros para los secretarios y los especialistas de tecnología de estaca.

Ayuda para Secretario de Miembros
Hablar de cuestiones de las policías a la unidad local para las cédulas de miembros (la creación de cédulas, la transferencia de cédulas, etc.) Este foro no debe contener información específica (financiera o personal) de los miembros.

MLS Apoyo, Ayuda y Feedback
Hablar del uso y la interfaz con la programa MLS de la Iglesia.

---- END TRANSLATION ----

I would only change "policias" with "politicas" or maybe "normas de la unidad local...". 'Policias' literally means police as in cops -or the band :D

Although a professional translator may use a few different words here, for example 'discutir' instead of 'hablar', the text above is more than enough to be understood and used by all the different spanish speakers, ie mexicans, chileans, spaniards etc.

imho the forum doesn't need strict professional translations as long as a note is included mentioning this to cover the church, just in case. For example we could add 'Translation not official but community volunteer based' or similar.

I imagine that was a small typo or oversight by oregonmatt. :)

Oops. That word definitely escaped my memory. Just an example of why it's usually better to have someone translate into their native language, instead of from it.

I specifically avoided 'discutir' because it also has the meaning of 'dispute'. It was at least so much so in my mission that I was told never to tell someone we wanted to have a 'discusión', but that we wanted to 'charlar' (chat).
